Fondo del Patronato MezquitalThe Fondo del Patronato Mezquital is established to support the transnational philanthropy of Patronato Mezquital – a “hometown association” of more than 200 families residing in central North Carolina who hail from the Mexico town of Mezquital and together raise funds for charitable projects in their homeland. This is the first hometown association fund in North Carolina at a community foundation. IMPACT GreensboroIMPACT Greensboro is formed as the result of the findings of a social capital survey. Public and private institutions collaborate to support this unique program that demonstrates how ordinary citizens from different backgrounds can forge authentic and meaningful relationships, find shared values, and develop solutions to day-to-day community issues. Celebrating its Silver AnniversaryCelebrating its Silver Anniversary, the Foundation launches a series of high-impact, permanent endowments for the betterment of the Greensboro area. The first two established – Women to Women and The Public Art Endowment – raise money to address issues of interest to women and their families and to acquire significant pieces of public art to facilitate community. Guardian II, a sculpture by internationally renowned artist Billy Lee, is unveiled on the grounds of the Old Guilford County Courthouse, making it the first gift to the residents of Guilford County by the Public Art Endowment. The foundation makes grants from these funds for the long-term benefit of the community. The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro offers great flexibility in the kind of fund you establish and in the level of involvement you desire. Donor-advised funds allow you to be actively involved in deciding how your gift is used. Community Grantmaking Funds leave those decisions to the Foundation’s program experts, who determine how best to use your gift to respond to the community’s needs. Regardless the level of involvement you choose, you can target your fund to support a particular interest, scholarship, nonprofit organization, or cause. For more information about establishing a fund, Contact Cathy Knowles The overall, long-term investment objective of the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is to achieve an annualized total return through appreciation and income net of investment management fees and expenses that is greater than the rate of inflation as measured by the broad, domestic Consumer Price Index plus 5%, which protects fund assets against inflation. In other words, today’s endowment contributions will be prudently invested, provide an annual funding stream, and at a minimum maintain purchasing power in perpetuity. Our Investment Committee works with an independent investment advisor, the Funds Evaluation Group FEG, for investment management and oversight of our portfolio. Unfortunately, you cannot use a donor-advised fund to fulfill a pledge for which you have made a prior commitment. When you contribute cash or property to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro to establish a donor-advised fund, you are entitled to a charitable deduction. Under the direction of a volunteer board of community leaders the Foundation receives charitable funds from donors, invests those funds, distributes funds to charitable causes and provides services and grants to nonprofit agencies and the community. Position Summary The Accountant ensures the accuracy and efficiency of internal and external financial reporting, by aligning strong internal controls, technology and processes, with donor expectations. The Accountant is responsible for disbursement and trust fund accounting, general ledger processing and reconciliations, maintenance of financial files and monthly fund analysis and reporting. Integral to the Accountant’s work is the effective use of information systems, while maintaining adherence to an effective internal control system. The position requires a customer service focus to meet the needs of internal colleagues and external stakeholders and creates, builds, and strengthens relationships with individuals, agencies, and businesses in the community as it relates to the Finance Department. Essential Duties & Responsibilities A. Finance and Accounting • Ensures timely, accurate transfer of data from sub ledgers including contributions, credit cards, grants, interfund transfers to general ledger • Serves as lead for trust funds’ activity, accounting and reconciliations; gathers and prepares information needed for trust funds’ annual tax return preparation and prepares returns as requested. • Ensures accurate, efficient processing of all Foundation disbursements weekly, including recording, payment, database maintenance, related tax coding and filings and maintenance of all financial files • Process tax filings 1099, 1096, semi-annual sales tax refund • Prepares general ledger reconciliations, including cash accounts, prepaids, sales tax refunds, grants • Address or coordinate responses to inquiries from donors regarding funds; perform analyses and/or research as needed • Maintain Fixed Asset ledger and prepare related journal entries. • Provides assistance with investment accounts as needed • Prepares, analyzes and distributes periodic reports on charitable and special purpose funds • Maintains vendor database, preventing duplicate vendors and payment and maximizes utilization of Financial Edge and Granted Edge as relates to disbursements • Serve as Subject Matter Expert SME for interface between Granted Edge and Financial Edge software • Researches, recommends and implements process improvements to work • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned • Manage ETWI processing by working with project coordinator to process all payables and maintain budgeting worksheets.
