La piovra attaccherà infatti una struttura petrolifera giapponese, mentre lo squalo approderà fino in California, dove riuscirà a distruggere il Golden Gate con un semplice morso. Per riuscire ad impedire altre stragi, un gruppo di scienziati composto da tre oceanografi deciderà di realizzare un piano per attirare le due bestie in una grossa trappola. Spargeranno infatti dei feromoni in Alaska, in modo che vengano attirati nel continente in cui sono rimasti congelati per migliaia di anni. A huge iceberg calves that holds a megalodon mega shark and a giant octopus frozen inside it. Deployment of a LFAS low frequency automatic sonar unit causes it to shatter. The two behemoths thaw and return to life. The shark terrorizes the California coast while the octopus creates havoc things near Japan. A group of three oceanographers put together a plan to draw the beasts into a trap with pheromones. From the depths of primaeval times and the ever-frozen Ice Age, two deadly apex predators-a voracious Megalodon shark, and a mighty giant octopus-emerge from their icy Alaskan prison after an experimental Navy exercise. As a result, the flash-frozen adversaries immediately pick up where they left off, causing destruction and mayhem in both Japan and California. Now, under those dire circumstances, the marine biologist, Dr Emma MacNeil, and her mentor, Lamar Sanders, will have to join forces with the Japanese scientist, Dr Seiji Shimada, to come up with a plan to stop the gargantuan underwater killers. Synopsis Off the coast of Alaska, oceanographer Emma MacNeil Deborah Gibson is studying the migration patterns of whales aboard an experimental submarine she took without permission from her employer. Meanwhile, a military helicopter drops experimental sonar transmitters into the water, causing a pod of whales to go out of control and start ramming a nearby glacier. In the chaos, the helicopter crashes into the glacier, and the combined damage breaks the glacier open, thawing two hibernating, prehistoric creatures. Emma narrowly avoids destruction as, unknown to her, a giant shark and octopus are time later, a drilling platform off the coast of Japan is attacked by the octopus, which has tentacles large enough to wrap around the entire returning to Point Dume, California, Emma investigates the corpse of a beached whale covered with many bloody wounds. Her employer Dick Richie Mark Hengst believes them to be from a tanker propeller, but MacNeil insists they appear to be from a creature. Later, she extracts what appears to be a shark's tooth from one of the wounds. Elsewhere, the huge shark leaps tens of thousands of feet into the air from the ocean and attacks a commercial aircraft, forcing it to crash into the review board convenes and fires Emma on the advice from Dick Richie from the oceanographic institute for stealing the submarine. She goes to her home and brings the shark tooth to her old professor, former Navy pilot Lamar Sanders Sean Lawlor, who believes it belonged to a Megalodon, an enormous species of shark believed to have become extinct million years ago. The three review a videotape recorded during Emma's submarine voyage, finding images of both the megalodon and a gigantic octopus. A bordo di un piccolo sottomarino, che ha preso senza autorizzazione per riuscire a prova-re le sue teorie, l'intrepida biologa Emma McNeill Deborah Gibson è testimone di un fat-to strano rese pazze da un sonar a bassa frequenza lanciato da un elicottero, alcune balene prendono a capocciate una formazione di ghiaccio subacquea. Così facendo, liberano una piovra e uno squalo entrambi preistorici ed entrambi giganteschi che erano ivi congelati. La piovrona si dà subito da fare devastando una piattaforma petrolifera al largo delle coste giapponesi. Poi anche lo squalone entra in azione in un sinergico crescendo catastrofico. Le iperboli sono all'ordine del giorno il super squalo è in grado di fare balzi fuori dall'acqua talmente elevati da riuscire ad abbattere a morsicate un aereo di linea in volo; per non es-sere da meno, la piovrona abbatte un elicottero con un colpo di tentacolo! Sulle prime, no-nostante l'evidenza, nessuno crede alla loro esistenza. Tranne Emma, ovviamente, che non ha potuto vedere gli animaloni, ma intuisce che ci sono. C'è comunque un testimone - l'u-nico sopravvissuto alla strage della piattaforma petrolifera - che ha visto la piovra gigante e ne parla al dottor Shimada, uno scienziato che indaga sull'avvenimento fatto passare co-me un incidente. L'esimio professor Sanders ritiene che quelle creature preistoriche esi-stano davvero e forma un apposito team con Shimada ed Emma, sua ex studentessa. Il trio viene prelevato con la forza dall'FBI e accetta di collaborare a risolvere il problema purché si cerchi di preservare gli animaloni - una scoperta scientifica gigantesca quanto la loro mole - e non si badi solo a distruggerli.
